Is beating Hillary Clinton the only qualification now needed to run for President? Rudy Giuliani seems to think so.
Republican strategists attribute his staying power in no small part to his central argument to GOP voters desperate for victory next fall: He can win against a Democrat — and one in particular.I'm so weary of hearing that repetition. As a Republican, I don't want Hillary Clinton as president, but I am tired of people pounding the Hillary-fear drum. The only convincing argument anyone can make to me to vote for Rudy is that we have some Supreme Court Justices waiting to retire soon and we can't run the risk of an appointment to the bench by Clinton. While it is a powerful argument, it is still the ONLY ONE. And I'm still not convinced.
"I'm the only Republican candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton," Giuliani often says.
Giuliani is a thrice-married candidate from the liberal bastion of New York who supports abortion and gay rights, and has a past record of backing gun control measures. All that may prove a tough sell for conservative primary voters.Giuliani has a big bulls-eye on his forehead and the Democrats are reaching in their quivers for the arrow.
So, he's asking them to overlook what he doesn't offer — right-leaning views on cultural issues they care about — for what he says he does offer: the best opportunity for Republicans to thwart another Clinton presidency.
Giuliani would have his share of vulnerabilities as a general election candidate, not the least of which is his personal life.We shouldn't wrap up the present too quickly. I'm not anxious to put a big, red bow on him yet. Maybe it would be better to let the gift be a big surprise.
In that sense, Giuliani as the GOP nominee could actually end up being the Democrats' greatest gift.

I must confess I am one of those ready to vote for Rudy because of electiility and I'll tell you why. I am one of those wonderful people who helped get Clinton elected by voting for Perot.
I hate the fact that I did that. I swore I'd never do it again. It was my first election and I thought I was doing such a smart thing.
I'm truly horrified at the thought of a Hillary presidency.
I understand your point, but why is he the only one electable? Because he is telling us he is? That's what I don't like about the whole thing - his arrogance. And I don't trust him. Did you take the test on the post "which candidate is for you" I posted yesterday? You might be surprised. ;)
I took that candidate test, Belle, and my candidate turned out to be Duncan Hunter! I like him a lot but he's not going to be the candidate.
I really like Rudy, I suppose because I'm a socially liberal Republican, too. I think he's is the only one to beat Hillary, too, and that is the only thing I'm interested in this election cycle. Why? Because national security is my greatest concern and I DON'T want another Clinton in the White House making those decisions.
I totally understand your frustrations with a candidate telling us he's the only one. It does sound a bit arrogant. So does Hillary. The other day I heard her answer a question by saying something about her 'first' term. It's the truth, too, she'd be a two termer like her husband.
I am leaning toward Mitt Romney. I think he has the best chance of stopping the run away spending spree in Congress. And he is for a strong military. Those are the two big issues for me.
Ron, Romney is a good candidate. I think he will appoint constructionist judges too, despite his flips on social issues. He's good at communicating his message. So is Huckabee.
Romney is the Republican John Kerry, Rudy is the ONLY republican who will force the democrats to defend states like Jersey, Penn and even NY.
With Rudy is the nominee it will force the Dems to advertize in NY, LA, abd Chicago, the 3 largest media markets in the country.
Or we can nominate someone else who will allow the dems to pour their VERY CONSIDERABLE resources into Ohio and Florida.
I dont agree w/ Rudy on everything, But i do respect him and i believe he has respect for Social cons and will nominate "strict constructionists' to the courts.
Hell dont take my would for it check out the list on his legal advisatory board.
