There are so many issues which are important to conservatives in this election. While this country needs a president who values social issues such as gun ownership and the pro-life cause, this nation needs more desperately a leader with vision, economical insight and most importantly foreign policy experience.
As an evangelical Christian, it is very important to me to have a leader who venerates God and who respects the life of the unborn. However, it is equally as important to have a president who truly understands the very difficult aspects of foreign relationships - friends and foes. Islamic terrorism is not some made up or provoked action caused by President George W. Bush or Vice-President Dick Cheney. This radical ideology existed long before they were even in office. And we cannot afford to dismiss this key issue or hope that it just goes away.
Therefore, I am imploring to all voters in Iowa. Please do not be hoodwinked by a Baptist minister who is strong on certain social issues, who is folksy and tells you what you want to hear. I nearly fell for the Huckabee hullabaloo too. (After all, he got the endorsement of Chuck Norris.)
I liked Mike Huckabee, but after examining his record more closely and listening to him, I've decided he is the WRONG man to lead our nation. Why? Because I believe there are other Republican candidates who seek God's wisdom daily but are just not overt and in your face about it. Because I believe there are other candidates who believe that Americans are capable of being responsible for their own lives and do not need the federal government to intervene on our behalf (i.e., Nanny State). Because I believe there are other candidates who don't just speak rhetoric about homeland security but have substantial plans and the ability and will to implement them. Because I believe there are other candidates who don't just pay ignorant lip service to foreign policy issues but have a real understanding of the threats to the West and the ability to communicate properly exactly how America intends to act upon those threats. Because I believe there are other candidates who have a reasonable grasp on the economic issues, including the massive entitlement program spending problem and the ability to use a veto pen. And because Mike Huckabee has absolutely ZERO foreign policy experience in a time that our nation needs it most.
While there are good aspects about all of our Republican candidates, it is very important to weed through all of the advertisements, debates, speeches and websites. Examine the record, examine the experience and compare. Scrutinize the details. Look at the bigger picture and try not to let the emotions of one issue overwhelm the ability to discern the best leader for our country.
After months of candidate analysis, my choice and endorsement for president is Senator Fred Thompson. Thompson is the most Reagan-like, true conservative candidate with substance. He has the economic plans, the demonstrated foreign policy experience, the endorsement of the National Right to Life, the confidence in citizens to control their own lives and the clear understanding of the urgent need for national security. He is a Christian family man but he does not believe the first duty of president is to be the Missionary-In-Chief. Neither do I.
I urge Iowa voters (and everyone else) to give Fred Thompson a second look before January 3rd. I think you will be as confident as I am in the results. Fred Thompson is the solid choice for true conservatives.

Well, I love children and puppies so I guess it's a nobrainer. Seriously, I had decided a couple of weeks ago based on my own, less extensive, research, that Fred needs to be the Republican nominee. And, like Peggy Noonan, I don't like the way that these early primaries could leave us with someone like Huckabee (who'll be slaughtered in a general election) or Romney. It's a disconcerting thought. But, I'm optimistic and I believe that if Fred can finish in the top 3 in Iowa then we could be looking at a primary process similar to the one that Reagan followed in 1980. Remember, Reagan didn't win IA or NH, so let's not get down if Fred doesn't win these first two.
Not that's a clever video! THanks for the laugh, Belle.
