UPDATE 1/6/08 9:24 am: I received an email from David Thompson yesterday. (Editor's note: Thank you, Mr. Thompson for visiting my site and taking the time to write me.) Here is the original letter written by David Thompson in full with all the hyperlinks working and sourced.
In his email, Mr. Thompson wanted to drive this point home and I will share it with you here (emphasis mine).
I am not supporting Romney (many ppl are jumping to that conclusion because
of Hugh's posting....not that who I am supporting would change the facts)
So the facts are what is important here. Who David Thompson supports or where this letter was linked originally is not relevant.
UPDATE 1/4/08 5:28 pm: Apparently, South Carolina has some sage evangelical conservatives.

The best case written against a Mike Huckabee nomination to the GOP is by David Thompson, a conservative evangelical from Arkansas.
That said, here are 7 key reasons I cannot in good conscience support Mike Huckabee as the Republican nominee for President. This is based on his record here and is not a personal attack - I cannot speak for his or anybody's motives. This list is not the result of intense research - it's based on what I know and have experienced first-hand as a politically-active conservative Arkansan. It's a list I could have given you 6 months or even 2 years ago. And I am not attempting to echo or give validity to any criticism he is now receiving nationally (and I don’t think ALL of it is fair). This is the Mike Huckabee we know.If you are a conservative voter in South Carolina (and everywhere else), please go read this before you vote. The Republican Party in Arkansas was damaged by Huckabee's 10 year reign. True conservatives must stop the damage already done to the GOP by unethical, pork-loving, open-border promoting, pretentious blowhards. Nominating Mike Huckabee, who is no Ronald Reagan and is not a true conservative, will not unify our party and will damage our nation.

It's a good article, but be aware that Hugh Hewitt is a big Romney supporter.
Oh, I know it. The letter could have been posted by Bill Clinton and I would have shared it.
Maybe our fellow evangelicals are blissfully unaware that the Huckster accepted 30k in speaking fees while governor from a company heavily into embryonic stem cell research. Look it up.
Whether or not it was written by a Romney supporter, if the facts are true (and from him I expect them to be) then they are still valid reasons not to vote for Huckabee.
Just on taxes, spending and illegal immigration, I would not vote for Huck.
Good snag. I have been saying this same stuff about Huck for months.
I emailed it immediately to my sister in Arkansas (she's fairly new there). She has not met one Huckabee supporter yet. She keeps calling and asking me why this unknown former governor is in the national news. The facts in the article are the reasons why conservatives are so angry and Democrats are so happy about Huck's win. This year I am voting for the best all-around conservative, regardless of electibility and what National Review says.
