"For every man who lives without freedom, the rest of us must face the guilt." - Lillian Hellman.
Today, May 15th, the folks at BlogCatalog have united for yet another cause. This time it is Human Rights. Recently on this site and on so many others, we have highlighted one individual in Yemen, whose rights have been stripped from him completely. Yemeni journalist and democracy crusader, Abdulkarim al-Khaiwani has been imprisoned unjustly by the Yemeni government for writing an article about the Sa’ada war. He's been through beatings and threats to his family. He could receive a death sentence for this.
A petition has been launched in an effort to help al-Khaiwani. It is an open letter urging the government officials of Yemen to free Al-Khaiwani and to protect freedom of expression for journalists.
PLEASE GO SIGN THIS PETITION TODAY AND URGE OTHERS TO DO SO TOO. As of this writing, 740 have signed.
Cotillion sister, Jane Novak of Armies of Liberation has a response letter from Al-Khaiwani, thanking us for our efforts. It is very moving.
Attention to this man's fate must not die silently. If it does, we shall live with the guilt of the death of another man's freedom. Won't you do your part?
