The Castle Doctrine might be one of the best laws passed by the Mississippi legislature under Governor Haley Barbour's leadership. Here is how it is useful.
In Mississippi, we mean business. Seriously.

Charges will not be filed against a resident of a south Jackson apartment who shot one of three alleged burglars he said were fleeing through a patio door.Guess who got apprehended? The thug with the bullet holes was found hiding in a culvert.

As he walked to his car, he saw three men sitting inside a parked Oldsmobile.
"When he came back to the apartment, he saw that his door was open, and he heard noises in the apartment. He saw that the men sitting in the car weren't there anymore, so he went back to his car to retrieve a weapon," Scott said.
When the resident opened the door to his apartment, three people ran toward the apartment's patio entrance, police said.
The resident then opened fire, hitting at least one of the suspects. Police said all three suspects, including the one who was shot, ran through a hole in the fence that encircles the apartment complex.
