Someone new to Mississippi once told me they should start a blog about all the ridiculous things they have seen since moving here. This should give them some fodder. This is definitely one of those "only in Mississippi could this happen" moments.

Ousted Texas Southern President and Mississippi native Priscilla Slade is returning to her alma mater, Jackson State University, where she will teach accounting this fall.

"The situation in Texas was resolved in Texas," said Glenda Glover, dean of JSU's College of Business. "It has nothing to do with the state of Mississippi."

Slade will be an asset to the university, Glover said.

Glover said she doesn't foresee the newly hired professor having credibility troubles with faculty and students.

"Accounting is the law of debits and credits," Glover said. "She has made a lot of contributions to the (accounting) profession and opened doors to African-American students in the profession. We thought the students would learn a lot from all that she has to offer."
Oh, that little situation in Texas just happened to be spending college funds on manicures, pedicures, expensive serving dishes, spa treatments, exercise classes and fancy furniture - to the tune of approximately $500,000. Slade entered a plea deal and agreed to pay TSU one quarter of the funds she was accused of taking.

But that qualifies her to teach accounting at a college in Mississippi. What will she teach - Cooking the Books 101? Or maybe she will teach them that if you spend 500K of money that doesn't belong to you and you happened to get caught, you will only have to pay back 125K. And at least your nails will look nice and you will have nice plates to eat on. Sheesh.

I don't care if she has a doctorate in accounting or is an alumni of the college. She shouldn't have been hired to even maintain the books at a college, much less teach students about accounting.

However, there is no 'accounting' for the stupid things done in the education system in Mississippi. After all we have no credibility issues on that subject. No, none indeed.
